Traditional electrolyte sports drinks contain sugars, artificial coloring, and other ingredients that have nothing to do with hydration. "Enhanced waters" often do not have even a functional amount of electrolytes.

Jesse Hubbard holds records most athletes only dream of: three straight NCAA National Championships at Princeton (1996, 1997, 1998), three-time All-American, Team U.S.A. World Champion, six-time Professional Lacrosse All-Star, retiring as the league’s all-time leading scorer. He also invented some of the most popular lacrosse sticks and equipment.
Yet after playing on a blistering summer day despite drinking plenty of water, Jesse suffered from severe dehydration.
“I got light-headed and collapsed in the parking lot while walking back to my car. After this experience, I knew that I had to take a closer look at my hydration routine. The problem? Simple science he hadn't known: the role of electrolytes in hydration.
“At the time, I didn’t understand the role that electrolytes play in maintaining fluid balance in our bodies. Since I consumed only plain water and sweated out both water and salt, I was becoming dehydrated from an imbalance of water and electrolytes.”
He hunted for fixes. Traditional sports drinks were too high in sugar and too filling to drink before or during games. So-called "electrolyte-enhanced" waters contained almost zero sodium—the electrolyte most important for hydration. And powder packets were hard to mix in water, required vigorous shaking or stirring, often never dissolving, and tasted chalky and gritty.
Jesse turned his product development mindset to the problem. The solution: Motive Pure, a zero-sugar, zero-calorie, naturally flavored liquid electrolyte concentrate with a functional amount of electrolytes.
